Sunrisers Eastern Cape sign Jordan Hermann as wildcard

The SA20 league had introduced one wildcard signing each for the franchises

Sunrisers Eastern Cape have signed South African youngster Jordan Hermann as their wildcard for the inaugural SA20.

The left-handed batter went unsold in the SA20 auction in September and was signed on the recommendation of Eastern Cape head coach Adi Birrell. The franchise have not revealed the signing amount for the 21-year old.

Hermann has played for South Africa's Under-19 team and made his first class debut for Warriors in October last year and has scored 638 runs from 10 innings so far. He has also featured in the CSA T20 Challenge this year and scored 186 runs from six innings at a strike rate of 116.25.

Sunrisers, owned by IPL franchise Sunrisers Hyderabad, made the biggest buy in the auction by signing South Africa batter Tristan Stubbs for USD 520,000 (Rand 9.2 million in South African currency). They have also signed Proteas pacer Marco Jansen, batter Aiden Markram and England pacer Brydon Carse.

On Thursday, MI Cape Town signed England pacer Jofra Archer as their wildcard pick while the other four teams are yet to announce their signings.

The six-team franchise tournament will begin on January 10 and will have a total of 33 matches to be played across six venues -- Paarl, Gqeberha, Johannesburg, Durban, Pretoria and Cape Town. The Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg will host the final on February 11.

Sunrisers Eastern Cape will begin their campaign on January 12 against Pretoria Capitals in Gqeberha.
