"...There’s No One Better Than Him" - CSK Legend Praises Rohit Sharma
The Indian captain smoked 119 off 90 deliveries in the second ODI against England in Cuttack
Former India batter and Chennai Super Kings legend Suresh Raina heaped heavy praise on Rohit Sharma after the Indian captain brought up his 32nd century in the second ODI against England in Cuttack. Rohit was under immense pressure after having a terrible 2024 with the bat in Test cricket, but the dynamic opener showed everyone he is still a dangerous commodity in the 50-over format.
Chasing a target of 305, Rohit got India off to a fiery start. The right-handed batter smoked 119 off 90 deliveries and put on 136 runs for the opening wicket alongside Shubman Gill. Rohit also smashed 12 fours and seven maximums during his stay in the middle, becoming the second-highest six-hitter in ODIs in the process.
"That 69m six, the first shot - it deserves some commentary! My voice is already fading, but that flow, that signature of a great player, was evident. Look at all those shots in the ‘V’! He used his footwork brilliantly against the spinners. He played fewer dot balls after each boundary and six, focusing more on rotation," Raina said on Star Sports.
"I had already said in the show that it was Rohit’s day. There was a different vibe in Cuttack, the fielding was sharp, and that’s how big players are - they win the series today, and they won’t leave Ahmedabad without seizing another opportunity. That 33rd century is also loading - I’m telling you!”
Rohit has superb numbers in ODIs since 2023. The 37-year-old has 1533 runs in 31 innings at an average of 52.86 and a strike rate of 119.8, studded with 11 fifties and three centuries. In the powerplay, Rohit has gone about his business at a strike rate of 124.62.
"He enjoyed the situation. Whenever Rohit Sharma plays, we always feel that if he bats for 20-25 overs, then the match is in our hands. He has flawless technique, the best timer of the ball. I think when he is in his zone, there’s no one better than him in the world.”
India will play the third ODI against England on February 12 in Ahmedabad before travelling to Dubai for the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy, starting February 19.
