Axar Patel was on a hat-trick in his first-ever ICC Champions Trophy match. However, skipper Rohit Sharma dropped the catch of Jaker Ali and Axar was denied a shot at history.
However, Axar was not really sad after the drop, which was actually as easy a catch as they come.
Reacting to the drop catch by Rohit, the left-arm spinner said, “When the edge was found, I thought I got my hat-trick. It was an eventful over. I started to celebrate and then I saw it (Rohit dropping the catch). I didn't react and just came back. It's part of the game.”
And what about the first two wickets? Axar said that he was not even aware that he got the first wicket of Tanzid Tamim.
“A lot happened. I didn't know if it (Tanzid Hasan wicket) was out, but KL appealed and it was out. Then I got the second wicket (Mushfiqur Rahim),” said the 31-year-old.
Axar even said that it would be an easy chase for India as the wicket has got easier to bat on.
“The wicket got easier to bat, and I think it's an easy total to chase. It's a slow wicket and as the ball gets older, it gets easier to bat. In the second innings, it'll remain slow,” he said.
While Axar finished with figures of 2/43 in his nine overs as Bangladesh were bowled out for 228, Mohammed Shami picked a five-wicket haul. India will need 229 to win.
