Vaughan Wants Gill, Jaiswal, Pant To Carry India Forward Like Kohli

The former England skipper hoped that Shubman Gill could emulate Kohli’s competitive energy and intensity

The Indian men’s Test team is undergoing a transition at the moment where Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and R Ashwin have left Test cricket and the team’s rein is in the hands of youngsters Shubman Gill, Rishabh Pant and Yashasvi Jaiswal.

Former England skipper Michael Vaughan wants the Indian team under these youngsters to emulate Virat Kohli and bring the same energy to the team.

“They [Gill, Jaiswal and Pant] now have to drag this Indian Test team forward like Virat did single-handedly," Vaughan said in an interview with PTI, as quoted by The Times of India.

"There's a group of them that I see that play the game the right way. If they can be anywhere near as close as what he brought to the Test match team — the energy and number-one status for such a long period of time — they'll have done a decent job."

"You can't move on so suddenly after two legends have retired or moved out of the team," he said.

Vaughan also hoped that Gill could have the "competitive energy and intensity” that Kohli as a skipper had on the field. Vaughan also hyped up the talent available in the country and said that he won’t be worried about India’s future in the World Test Championship.

"With the talent India has, I wouldn't be worried. But I would want my Test team to be more consistent and competitive in all conditions,” Vaughan added.
