Punjab suffered a heartbreak against Kolkata while Bangalore were dominant against Chennai. Here is a look at the statistical highlights from the double-header on Saturday (10th October).
Dinesh Karthik posts a 22-ball fifty
There were a lot of questions over Dinesh Karthik’s batting prior to his match against Kings XI Punjab. Probably, those questions have gone into the bins by now. Coming into bat at a dicey situation, the Kolkata Knight Riders skipper, started off aggressively. In the first 10 balls of his innings, Karthik scored at a strike rate of 160. Then in the next 10 balls, his strike rate elevated to 290. By virtue of his aggressive innings, Karthik registered a 22-ball half-century which is his joint-fastest in IPL. Against Punjab in 2018 in Indore, he had registered a half-century off the same number of balls.

First team to 100 defeats
As quoted by J.K Rowling “It is impossible to live without failing at something, unless you live so cautiously that you might as well not live at all. In which case, you’ve failed by default”. Nothing better relates to Kings XI Punjab than this quote. It is all about overcoming the failure, but for Punjab, they are just choking at the doorstep of victory. Today (10 October) as well, with 47 runs required off 35 balls and 10 wickets in hand, a win was imminent. However, they made a mess of the chase once again to register their 100th IPL defeat, the first team to suffer this fate.

Royal Challengers Bangalore post their lowest Powerplay score
After the early loss of Aaron Finch in the Powerplay, Royal Challengers Bangalore batsmen went into a shell. Virat Kohli and Devdutt Padikkal only managed to nudge singles, but the boundaries didn’t flow freely. The Bangalore batsmen were able to score only three fours in this phase. There were 16 dot balls played. In all their previous matches, they never scored below 40, which meant the 36 runs scored by them today (10th October) is the lowest so far this season for them.
6K runs for Virat Kohli in a Bangalore jersey in T20s
13 years has gone by and Virat Kohli has been an esteemed ambassador for Royal Challengers Bangalore. N number of records and numerous moments to cherish for the King with the Bangalore-based franchise. Against Chennai Super Kings, he became the first batsman to score 6000 runs for a franchise in T20s. Hence, Kohli’s 6059 runs for Bangalore, is the most a batsman has scored for a team in T20s.

Equal with Gautam Gambhir for fifties as captain in IPL
Yet another milestone for a player who has the ability to break all the batting barriers set. En route his 52-ball 90 against Chennai Super Kings in Match 25, Kohli registered his 31st IPL half-century as a captain. He is now equal with Gautam Gambhir for most fifties among captains in the IPL. Kohli is not far too from MS Dhoni in the run’s leaderboard among the captains. He just needs 24 runs to overtake the former Indian skipper count of 4254 runs.

Highest Individual score by a captain against Chennai Super Kings
Chennai Super Kings maintain high standards in their bowling, might not be the case this season, but still they are one of the best bowling teams. If anyone could create a ruckus in their line-up, it's none other than Kohli, especially when he is pumped up and in-form. Kohli has a special liking towards Chennai in IPL, one of the reasons why he has scored over 800 runs against the franchise, which is also the most against them. Kohli smashed an unbeaten 90 off 52 balls in Match 25 against Chennai, which again entered the record books. His unbeaten 90 is the highest individual score by a captain in IPL against Chennai.

300 sixes in T20s for MS Dhoni
Among Indians, most of the batsmen rely on their timing, but few of them are real hard-hitters of the ball. Certainly, Dhoni belongs to the latter group of batsmen. Stuck on 299 sixes, prior to the match against Royal Challengers Bangalore, Dhoni launched a six straight over Yuzvendra Chahal in the 16th over to bring up his 300th six in T20s. By virtue of it, he became the third Indian in T20s to achieve this feat. Rohit Sharma with 375 sixes, leads the chart among Indians.
