Former Indian skipper and number four batter Virat Kohli took to X (formerly Twitter), where he is hardly active apart from posting advertisements, to praise Team India’s historic victory at Edgbaston in Birmingham. Shubman Gill’s side beat the home team by a huge margin of 336 runs to register their first-ever victory at the Edgbaston ground.
Skipper Gill was right at the forefront of this win with 430 runs in the Test match, as he notched up a 269 and then a 161 at Edgbaston. Mohammed Siraj and Akash Deep were brilliant with the ball as well, as they both picked fifers with the latter picking 10 wickets in the Test match overall.
“Great victory for India at Edgbaston. Fearless and kept pushing England to the wall,” Kohli wrote.
“Brilliantly led by Shubhman with the bat and in the field and impactful performances from everyone. Special mention to Siraj and Akash for the way they bowled on this pitch.”
The former Indian skipper, who had recently retired from Test cricket, had also posted a story on his Instagram handle praising Gill, especially, where he said that India’s new skipper is rewriting history and that he deserves all the praise that is coming his way.
“Well played star boy. Rewriting history. Onwards and upwards from here. You deserve all of this,” Kohli wrote on his Instagram stories.
