Virat Kohli No Longer Holds THIS ODI Record
Today at the Gaddafi stadium in Lahore, New Zealand’s Kane Williamson pushed Kohli back in a very prominent list
Since making his ODI debut in 2008, Virat Kohli has achieved heights in the 50-over format a vast majority of the batters haven’t even dared to dream of.
As of this moment, Kohli has scored 13,911 runs in ODIs at a remarkable average of 57.96 and is the only batter in the history to have hit 50 tons in this format of the game.
However, today at the Gaddafi stadium in Lahore, New Zealand’s Kane Williamson pushed Kohli back in a very prominent list.
On the back of his 133* against South Africa in the second ODI of the tri-series, Williamson got to 7,000 ODI runs. He became the fifth New Zealander to achieve the landmark.
Astonishingly, Williamson ended up getting to the landmark in fewer innings than Kohli, making him the second-fastest batter in history to 7000 ODI runs.
That’s right, while Kohli took 161 innings to get to 7,000 ODI runs, Williamson got there in just 159. However, the outright record still belongs to Hashim Amla, who is the fastest batter ever to get to 7,000 ODI runs - just 150 innings.
But Kohli’s greatness is underlined by the fact that he is still the fastest to 8,000, 9,000, 10,000, 11,000, 12,000 and 13,000 ODI runs. He is on course to becoming the fastest in history to 14,000 ODI runs as well - he just needs 89 runs in 65 innings to break Sachin Tendulkar’s existing record.
