We Call Deepti Sharma 'Stokesy' In The Dressing Room: Amol Muzumdar
The all-rounder was honoured with the Player of the Tournament in the recent Women's World Cup
Deepti Sharma was instrumental in helping India to a memorable win in the Women's World Cup. She became the first player to score over 200 runs and pick up over 2 wickets at the mega event, including a five-wicket haul in the final against South Africa.
As a result, she was named the Player of the Tournament for her excellent performance. As a result, India Women head coach Amol Muzumdar revealed she is referred to as 'Stokesy' after Ben Stokes in the dressing room.
“Stokes, because there are a lot of similarities, isn't it? I mean, I worked a little bit with Ben Stokes with the Rajasthan Royals in the IPL. There are a few similarities with Deepti. She bats left-handed, she bowls right-handed, Stokes does that. She bats at number 6; Stokes does that. Most hard-working cricketer in the team,” Muzumdar said at Hindustan Times Leadership Summit (HTLS) 2025.
“Never misses a match, Stokes doesn't miss a match. And above all, I think her throw resembles Ben Stokes'. Come and catch her throw once," Muzumdar added.
Following her impressive show at the World Cup, the 28-year-old has moved to No. 4 in the ICC rankings for ODI all-rounders. She is also among the top five bowlers in the world.
