WPL 2025: Skipper Harmanpreet Kaur Happy To Be Back In Mumbai
MI played their first season in Mumbai and won the tournament, while they were unable to make it to the final in the second season.
Mumbai Indians captain Harmanpreet Kaur is happy to be playing in front of the home fans, colloquially known as the ‘Paltan’ in Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2025. After no matches in Mumbai in the second edition, there will be eight of them this year, including the Eliminator and the Final.
“A lot of my good performances have happened in Mumbai. I have won a lot of trophies in Mumbai. I am really happy that we are getting a chance to play in front of our MI Paltan. We really missed them last year,” said Harman in a press conference in Mumbai on February 5 (Wednesday).
Jhulan Goswami, bowling coach of the MI side in the WPL, was happy basking in the impact that the league has had on women's cricket in the country.
"If you go to domestic cricket, you’ll see the girls now want to play a good brand of cricket and impress scouts to play in the WPL. I have traveled to different parts of the country where you would earlier never get recognition, but people now want to know when the next WPL is coming. The impact of the WPL is amazing,” said the 42-year-old, who is also the leading wicket-taker in Women's ODI history.
Meanwhile, head coach Charlotte Edwards still wants to work on the basics of team building, having missed out on winning back-to-back trophies. “We missed out by the narrowest of margins, which was disappointing. This year, there is just pure excitement for it, to keep building this team, keep improving, get back to CCI and be in another final this year,” she said.
The third season of the Women’s Premier League begins on February 14, 2025, in Vadodara, and the Mumbai Indians are set to play their first game on February 15, against the Delhi Capitals.
