Australia’s ace left-arm paceman Mitchell Starc won’t be joining Delhi Capitals (DC) for the remainder of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, reported AAP. The 35-year-old has informed the franchise that he won’t be coming back for the remaining games.
The IPL 2025 was suspended after cross-border tensions escalated between India and Pakistan, but is now set to resume on May 17. Starc is DC’s leading wicket-taker in the tournament thus far, having claimed 14 wickets in 11 encounters.
The Capitals have 13 points after 11 matches and need to win all their remaining three games to qualify for the playoffs. DC can even qualify if they win two of those three games, but will then need a couple of results to go in their favour.
Jake Fraser-McGurk also won’t be returning to India, and DC have replaced him with Bangladesh’s left-arm seamer Mustafizur Rahman, whose participation in the competition is not 100 percent certain. Meanwhile, Tristan Stubbs will return, but Faf du Plessis is yet to confirm.
Starc can now focus on the World Test Championship (WTC) final against South Africa, to be played at Lord’s from June 11. However, his Australian teammates Pat Cummins and Travis Head will join the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) set-up even though they are out of the race for the playoffs.
RCB’s Josh Hazlewood (shoulder niggle) and PBKS’ Josh Inglis are also yet to confirm their availability, but LSG’s Mitchell Marsh will be back for sure.
