Jaiswal, Nitish Reddy, Shami likely to feature in India's Champions Trophy squad: Report

Arshdeep Singh will also be there in the ODI set-up with uncertainty over Jasprit Bumrah’s fitness

The Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee is likely to announce India’s squad for the two home white-ball series against England and the 2025 Champions Trophy on January 12, reported RevSportz. India are scheduled to play five T20Is (January 22 - February 2) and three ODIs (February 6-12) against England before the Champions Trophy, which will get underway on February 19.

Jasprit Bumrah, who suffered a back spasm during the final Test against Australia in Sydney, is likely to miss both the series against England but will be included in the Champions Trophy squad, with an asterisk of subject to fitness.

Pacer Mohammed Shami, who hasn’t played international cricket since the 2023 ODI World Cup, and left-arm wrist spinner Kuldeep Yadav’s fitness is also being monitored. The two bowlers are likely to feature in the ODI squad for the England series and the Champions Trophy squad.

Captain Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer and Hardik Pandya will take five of the first six spots in the ODI XI, while Rishabh Pant and KL Rahul will be fighting for the wicketkeeper slot. Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel and Washington Sundar will be the three spin-bowling all-rounders in the squad.

In-form opener Yashasvi Jaiswal is also set to be included in the ODI squad, but for now, only as a back-up opener. Nitish Kumar Reddy, who had a stunning debut Test series in Australia and was also impressive in the three T20Is against Bangladesh last year, is also being considered for the ODI unit, especially as a back-up for Pandya.

Varun Chakaravarthy is another spinner who could be considered, but there are still question marks over his fitness for the 50-over format. Arshdeep Singh will also be there with uncertainty over Bumrah’s fitness. Mohammed Siraj, who has been playing non-stop cricket for a while, will be rested for the T20I series but will likely return for the ODIs.
