Legend 90: Jesse Ryder’s Comeback, Bipul Sharma’s ‘Dream Delivery’ & Other Things You Might Have Missed

15 games in, the Legend 90 has provided some top-notch entertainment thus far

We are 15 games into Legend 90, 2025, and it’s thus far proven to be a competition to remember, with the unique 90-ball tournament providing a dose of nostalgia like no other.

We had the likes of Shikhar Dhawan, Lendl Simmons, and Martin Guptill sizzle while the tournament has also provided fans the opportunity to reconnect with some forgotten IPL cult heroes such as Kevon Cooper, Manpreet Gony, Siddharth Trivedi and others.

All in all, the Legend 90 has provided some top-notch entertainment and has established itself as one of the premium exhibition competitions going around in world cricket currently.

Guptill’s 160* has unquestionably proven to be the single biggest talking point of the tournament thus far, but there have been plenty of other interesting moments and developments which you might have missed.

Bipul Sharma’s unplayable seed

Bipul Sharma was a wily customer back in the day in the Indian Premier League (IPL), and the left-arm spinner still continues to torment batters with his skill.

Recently, in the clash between Delhi Royals and Dubai Giants, the Delhi skipper took 5/21 with the ball and bowled DG opener Naresh Kashyap with arguably the ball of the tournament.

It was a dream delivery for a left-arm spinner: angled and drifted in, pitched on middle, turned away from the right-hander and crashed into off-stump.

Dave Mohammed still going strong at 45

It was 25 years back that West Indies’ Dave Mohammed made his first-class debut and he is still going strong. The Legend 90 largely features players who have retired recently but Mohammed, representing the Punjabi Sher, has been hanging with the big guns despite last playing a professional game 12 years back in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL).

Gurkeerat Singh Mann’s ‘GOATED’ all-round showing

You’ll struggle to find a more ‘all-round’ performance than what Gurkeerat Singh Mann produced for Chhattisgarh Warriors against Punjab.

First, he registered figures of 1.3-0-1-4 with the ball in hand. That’s right, one run conceded and four wickets taken. In the same innings, Gurkeerat took as many as three catches.

Then, in the chase, he scored 21 (13) balls batting at No.3.

If this ain’t enough, he was the captain who led his side, Chhattisgarh Warriors, to a comfortable victory.

Ross Taylor opens the bowling for Delhi

Did you ever think there’d be a day when you would see Ross Taylor opening the bowling?

Well, that happened in the clash between Delhi Royals and Dubai Giants, with skipper Bipul Sharma throwing the ball to Taylor. That’s right, new ball, and it was Taylor who took it, bowling his off-spin.

He started well, conceding just one off the first two balls, but then he got taken apart as he conceded 16. But it didn’t matter, as Delhi eventually went on to win the contest.

Jesse Ryder turns back the clock

Jesse Ryder, one of the most talented cricketers the sport has ever produced, disappeared from the international scene just like that due to a host of issues.

But he is back on the field again, enjoying his cricket, and turned the block in the encounter between Punjab and Chhattisgarh.

Opening the batting, the left-hander blasted 66 off 28 balls, hammering seven fours and five sixes. He got Punjab off to an absolute flyer and even hit a ridiculous one-handed six akin to a backhand from Roger Federer.

But unfortunately, Ryder’s efforts went in vain as Punjab ended up getting bowled out for 101. That’s right, all the other batters combinedly managed just over 50% of what the left-hander hit himself.

Subodh Bhati’s perfect, unplayable inswinger

In the clash between Gujarat Samp and Punjabi Sher, there was more bowling exhibition on display as right-arm seamer Subodh Bhati bowled an outrageous inswinger to dismiss opener Sandeep More.

The ball started well outside the wide line but swung in sharply and castled the off-stump of the right-hander, who was left stunned by the movement.

Certainly, it’s not just one of the balls of the tournament but one of the balls of the year without question.
