Shubman Gill’s horror record with the coin toss continues as the team India skipper lost the toss once again in the third ODI against Australia in Sydney today, making it three straight toss losses in the series.
It means that, since being appointed full-time captain earlier this year, GIll has astonishingly just won one toss in 10 matches he’s captained - the second Test against West Indies in Delhi, where India opted to bat.
On the day, Mitchell Marsh, after winning the toss, opted to bat first for a change as Australia made just one change to their side, bringing in Nathan Ellis for Xavier Bartlett.
India, meanwhile, have made two pertinent changes, dropping Nitish Reddy and Arshdeep Singh while bringing in Kuldeep Yadav and Prasidh Krishna respectively. In the first two ODIs, the Men in Blue were let down by their batters, but there was also a lack of penetration in the bowling. But these two key changes will likely improve the bowling, albeit this is still a dead rubber.
India are aiming to avoid creating unwanted history as they have never been whitewashed in a bilateral series away in Australia.
