Things keep going from bad to worse for India’s Test stars in the ongoing Ranji Trophy round.
After Rohit Sharma, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill’s single-digit outings, Rishabh Pant has become the latest Test star to underwhelm, departing for 1 off 10 balls against Saurashtra. Pant was dismissed by left-arm spinner Dharmendrasinh Jadeja.
Like Rohit, this was a long-awaited return to the Ranji Trophy for Pant, who last played in the competition back in 2017. But the comeback was short-lived.
The 1 today is Pant’s joint second-lowest score in the Ranji Trophy. He had been dismissed in single digits only on three previous occasions in the competition.
Lowest scores for Rishabh Pant in Ranji Trophy (where dismissed)
0 vs Rajasthan in 2016
1 vs Saurashtra in 2025
1 vs Bengal in 2017
9 vs Karnataka in 2016
Pant is playing the ongoing Ranji Trophy round on the back of being dropped from India’s T20I squad for the five-match series against England. The left-hander, however, has made it to the Champions Trophy squad and will participate in the three-match ODI series against the Three Lions, starting next month.
All-rounder Ravindra Jadeja is also playing in this game. He has, in fact, already scalped two wickets, dismissing Sanat Sangwan and Yash Dhull.
