Kane Williamson’s SA20 career got off to the perfect start imaginable. The former New Zealand skipper posted an entertaining fifty on his SA20 debut for Durban’s Super Giants against Pretoria Capitals.
Batting at No.3, Williamson posted 60 off 40 balls after openers Bryce Parsons and Matthew Breetzke got the Super Giants off to a flyer. Williamson’s fifty helped DSG post 209/4 in their 20 overs.
It was a typical, trademark Williamson innings in which the right-hander went through the gears. The 34-year-old made a pretty slow start, scoring just 27 runs off his first 25 balls. He was, in fact, dropped on 23 as Rahmanullah Gurbaz put down a sitter.
Williamson made the most of the reprieve, stringing together a destructive 91-run stand with Wiaan Mulder (45* off 19 balls) to help DSG post a mammoth total. Williamson scored 33 off his last 15 balls as he hit three fours and two sixes overall.
Williamson is playing in SA20 is because he opted out of a New Zealand central contract last year, after giving up white-ball captaincy.
