Dhawan scores 400+ runs for 6th successive year, Nortje sets the speed guns ablaze and more

Here are some of the noteworthy stats from the 33rd Match of IPL 2021 between Delhi Capitals and Sunrisers Hyderabad in Dubai

The shift in venue hasn’t brought any changes in the fortunes for both the teams. Delhi Capitals continue to boss through and for Sunrisers Hyderabad, the sun is yet to rise. After winning the toss, Hyderabad skipper Kane Williamson opted to bat first. In the absence of Jonny Bairstow, David Warner had to step up. But, that wasn’t the case as his horror season continued. Wickets at regular intervals, a hapless middle order, continued to haunt Hyderabad as they scored only 134 runs in their full quota of 20 overs.

Chasing a meager target of 135, Prithvi Shaw departed early. His last few innings in UAE haven't been great either. However, the inform Shikhar Dhawan teed-off. Joining him, Shreyas Iyer who was returning to action after an injury played the second fiddle in the second wicket partnership of 52. After Dhawan’s dismissal, Iyer and Rishabh Pant made sure there wasn’t any hiccup as they chased down the target with 13 balls to spare by sharing an unbeaten 67-run partnership. The current Orange Cap holder Dhawan was amongst the runs once again and he joined an elite list. Here are some of the stats form the match:

A duck after a long time

Warner might be having a lean patch now, but he is still one of the most consistent run scorers of the league. 54 scores of fifty is a testimony of it. Coming back to today’s innings, Warner suffered a three-ball duck. The last time he suffered a duck in IPL was way back in 2016 against the now-defunct Rising Pune Supergiants in Hyderabad. Post that, Warner had played 59 innings till today, without a duck to his name.

Nortje bowls the fastest delivery of IPL 2021

The pace spearhead from South Africa, Anrich Nortje missed the first half of the IPL because of an Injury. In his comeback, the pacer has already set the speed guns on fire. Nortje started off his IPL 2021 with a 148.7 kph delivery. In the fourth ball of the first over, he touched the 150kph barrier. In his second over, he bowled a 151.7kph delivery, which is currently the fastest of this season. In case you didn’t know, the fastest delivery in the history of IPL also belongs to Nortje (156.2 against Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2020).

Rabada’s first of a kind three wicket haul

Kagiso Rabada is one of those bowlers who has raised to the ranks in quick time in IPL. 72 wickets in just 43 innings states his high-speed rise. In his IPL career, Rabada has had eight three-wicket hauls including today. But, today’s is a unique one. For the first time, he bagged a wicket in all the phases of the match. Wriddhiman Saha in powerplay, Manish Pandey in middle overs and Abdul Samad during the death overs.

Shikhar Dhawan continues his merry way

Two Indian openers who have contested for a spot in India's T20 eleven - KL Rahul and Shikhar Dhawan - are playing musical chairs when it comes to donning the Orange Cap. At present, it is Dhawan who is ahead of Rahul (380) with 422 runs in IPL 2021 and the rightful owner of the Orange Cap. It's just not this season, for the past six seasons, Dhawan has been among the runs. By scoring 400+ runs for six consecutive seasons since 2016, only Suresh Raina (2008-14) and Warner (2013-20) are ahead of him with seven.

Shreyas Iyer, fourth fastest Indian to 4000 T20 runs

It was a happy comeback to competitive cricket for Iyer. The free-flowing batsmen from Mumbai, notched up 4000 runs in T20s. He achieved the feat in 147 innings, which is the fourth fastest among Indians in this format. Rahul is the quickest as he reached it in 117 innings. Virat Kohli (138) and Raina (143) are the other two batsmen who were quicker than him.

Sandeep’s second match without an over in powerplay

Most of Sandeep Sharma’s wickets in IPL have come in the powerplay. In fact, his 53 wickets in this phase has been the most by a bowler in IPL. As a rather surprising move, Williamson didn’t turn towards Sandeep in the powerplay overs in the match. In his 96 IPL matches, this was only the second time, Sandeep didn’t bowl an over in this phase. Interestingly, the other instance was also against Delhi in 2019.
