Kohli & Cummins among four shortlisted for ICC Men’s Cricketer of the Year award

As far as Women’s Cricket is concerned, Chamari Athapaththu has remarkably made the shortlist for every single senior award

The International Cricket Council (ICC) have revealed the nominees for the ICC Awards 2023 and Pat Cummins and Virat Kohli have been shortlisted for the Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy for ICC Men’s Cricketer of the Year. Cummins and Kohli have been shortlisted alongside Travis Head and Ravindra Jadeja, both of whom enjoyed a very successful 2023.

Head, who won the Player of the Match award in both the World Cup Final and the World Test Championship Final, is also in the shortlist for the ICC Men’s Test Cricketer of the Year award. Ravichandran Ashwin is the only Indian in the list, which also consists of Usman Khawaja and Joe Root.

As far as the ICC Men’s ODI Cricketer of the Year award is concerned, three of the four nominees are Indian players: Kohli, Shubman Gill and Mohammed Shami. New Zealand’s Daryl Mitchell is the only non-Indian in the list.

As far as Women’s Cricket is concerned, Chamari Athapaththu has remarkably made the shortlist for every single senior award: Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy for ICC Women’s Cricketer of the Year, ICC Women’s ODI Cricketer of the Year and ICC Women’s T20I Cricketer of the Year.

Unlike the Men’s awards, which have been dominated by nominees from India, there is not a single Indian player in the final shortlist for any of the Women’s cricket awards.

Fan voting results will be combined with selections made by the ICC Voting Academy to identify the winner in each of the shortlisted categories.
