What Is The First-Class Record Of Every Player Part Of India Test Squad In England?

There are a couple of players who have never played a single competitive first-class game in England

Karun Nair

1,222 runs @ 55.55, 50s 6, 100s 3

Returning to the Indian Test squad for the first time since 2017, Karun Nair has the most runs by an Indian player in the squad. Most of those runs have come for Northamptonshire (736 runs @ 56.62), while the rest have come for India A (739 runs @ 54).

KL Rahul

882 runs @ 56.3, 50s 2, 100s 4

KL Rahul plays a shotNair's former Karnataka teammate KL Rahul, too, has excellent numbers in England. He has among the most experienced batters India have at their disposal. He has two fifties and as many hundreds in England in his last 10 innings, including one at Lord's in 2021.

Ravindra Jadeja

768 runs @ 51.6, 100s 1, 50s, 100s 1; 28 wickets @ 43.9

Ravindra Jadeja is expected to slot in as the lone spinning all-rounder for the majority of the Tests and will have his task cut out. While he has excellent numbers with the bat, he will have to work on his bowling.

Rishabh Pant

745 runs @ 67.5, 50s 5, 100s 2

Rishabh Pant, who got his maiden Test century during his first tour of England in Tests, will be expected to deliver with the bat and also with he gloves behind the wicket. It will be interesting to see how he goes after an underwhelming Indian Premier League (IPL) season.

Shubman Gill

332 runs @ 33.2, 50s 1, 100s 1

Shubman Gill celebrates a fiftyIndia captain Shubman Gill may have a poor Test record in England, but thankfully, his overall first-class record would certainly give him hope of a turnaround. He fared well in the intra-squad game as well, which could certainly help him fare better in the Test series.

Sai Sudharsan

281 runs @ 35.13, 50s 1, 100s 1

After a splendid IPL, Sai Sudharsan will hope that he makes the best of his opportunity. Tipped to make his Test debut against England, Sudharsan, who had a couple of good seasons for Surrey, will hope to make this opportunity count.

Shardul Thakur

279 runs @ 25.36, 50s 3; 13 wickets @ 42.9

Shardul Thakur has already shown that he is no mug with the bat, especially in England, where three of his four Test fifties have come. For someone who bats at eight or below, his batting average is not all that bad, but he needs to be more effective with the ball.

Dhruv Jurel

227 runs @ 75.67, 50s 3

Dhruv Jurel slammed three fifties in four first-class innings against the England Lions, which puts him in good stead to play a Test or two purely as a batter. Moreover, he is a safe wicketkeeper and a perfect No. 2 to Pant.

Abhimanyu Easwaran

221 runs @ 36.83, 50s 2

Abhimanyu Easwaran has been part of several Indian squads in the past, but has not made his bow yet, despite being a heavy scorer in domestic cricket. However, he is in excellent form going into the Test series, having slammed two fifties in four innings in the A games.

Yashasvi Jaiswal

110 runs @ 27.5, 50s 1

Yashasvi Jaiswal managed just one fifty in the four A games, but given the form he has been in Tests over the last couple of years, one would not count him out from coming good. It will be interesting to see how he tackles the swing, especially under the overcast conditions of England.

Jasprit Bumrah

38 wickets @ 26.6, 5WI 2

Jasprit Bumrah bowlsThe key man for India, fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah, needs to be at his best if his side are to knock over 20 England wickets every game. He has a superb record in England with the ball, and it would be criminal not to mention him taking Stuart Broad for 35 runs at Edgbaston in 2022.

Washington Sundar

53 runs @ 13.25; 8 wickets @ 24.8, 5WI 1

Washington Sundar picked up a fifer and scored an unbeaten 34 at eight on his county debut for Lancashire in 2022. However, since then, he has played only a handful of matches there.

Nitish Kumar Reddy

135 runs @ 45, 50s 1; 2 wickets @ 56

While Nitish Kumar Reddy proved in Australia that he is a solid batter, his bowling needs a lot of improvement. He may not play many Tests in England, with Shardul proving to be a more reliable pace-bowling all-rounder, he could slot in purely as a batter at some point, if the need arises.

Mohammed Siraj

46 wickets @ 26, 5WI 1

Mohammed Siraj celebrates

If India want Bumrah to play the majority of the series, they need Mohammed Siraj to step up, after an under-par series against Australia. He certainly has good numbers in England and will be expected to play a huge role if India are to win their first series in England since 2007.

Arshdeep Singh

13 wickets @ 41.8

Arshdeep Singh is the only left-arm pace option India have at their disposal this series. He had a decent outing with Kent in 2023, during which he was able to prove that he can be handy in English conditions.

Kuldeep Yadav

0 wickets

Kuldeep Yadav's only first-class game in England was a Test that came at Lord's in 2018. Opportunities could be limited this time around, too, but he could have a say in Manchester, where spinners have been a handful recently.

Harshit Rana

1 wicket @ 99

Harshit Rana impressed in patches in Australia and was recently added to the squad. He did not have a great outing in his only A game on this tour, but he is a decent cover to have in the squad.

NOTE: Prasidh Krishna and Akash Deep have not played a first-class game in England yet.
