Moeen Ali, Adil Rashid Predict Next Fab Four; Two Indian Batters Make The List!
The pair locked in two English players as well
Not often you see four generational talents and all-time greats from the same generation operate at the same time, but the 2010s decade gave birth to the ‘Fab Four’ of Kane Williamson, Virat Kohli, Joe Root and Steve Smith.
The term was coined by former New Zealand captain Martin Crowe in an ESPNCricinfo article in 2014, and while Williamson, Kohli, Root and Smith are ‘The Fab Four’ now and forever, that particular term has been used by the cricketing fraternity for different purposes, mostly to refer to the four best batters in the world.
Along the same lines, England internationals Moeen Ali and Adil Rashid picked their future Fab Four in the ‘Beard Before Wicket’ podcast, and agreed that Shubman Gill and Harry Brook were the first two entrants.
Moeen then advocated for India’s Yashasvi Jaiswal as the third entrant.
"He's played on some tough wickets back home, he's played in Australia away and excelled and now he's got runs in England. He's very tough to bowl at. He has pretty much no weakness,” Moeen said of Jaiswal.
Rashid agreed, and so the duo had three spots locked in. They discussed the fourth spot briefly and for the fourth and final pick, Rashid went with England and RCB youngster Jacob Bethell.
"If you're talking about the next 5-6 years, then I'm gonna go Bethell. He'll be there," Rashid said.
Moeen agreed with Rashid, and explained why he feels Bethell is certain to turn into a superstar, even though he remarkably has not yet scored a century in professional cricket.
"It's a weird one because we know he hasn't scored a hundred in any professional cricket. But it's the way he bats. And how he is as a guy. He is extremely professional,” Moeen said of Bethell.
“The only issue I see with him is injuries, he gets injured a lot. I hope he can stay healthy. But he's a very naturally gifted player. I like his technique and he's very young."
Towards the end, Moeen picked New Zealand’s Rachin Ravindra as his plus-one (potential fifth entrant).
